Stingray Gulai

It has been quite a long while since I last posted. Feels good to start clicking at the keyboard again. The past month has been pretty eventful not to mention the lack of sleep due to 2 under-the-weather children taking turns to have their 'go' at mom. Anyway that's over now and most importantly I have gulai to share.

Basic Chocolate Marble Cake

Here is something very simple and nice to eat. This is my basic chocolate marble cake. I make a lot of variation from this basic recipe. Just like the other day, I turned it into an apple, dried cranberry and pistachio cake. Anyway, this one's for you guys over in Melbourne, Kareen and Joyce and all marble cake lovers out there! Dig in! 100 gm castor sugar 250 gm plain flour 1/2 tsp soda bicarbonate

Anchoiade

This is a pungent mixture of anchovies, garlic and black olives. Best eaten with toasted baguette or french loaf. There is no cooking involved, just some grinding in the mortar and pestle. Reminds me of sambal belacan really! except this is French and the latter is Malaysian.

Braised Pork Ribs with Soya Sauce and Rock Sugar

This is a traditional Chinese pork ribs recipe enjoyed by Chinese and non-Chinese all over the whole until this day. Quite a classic dish that can be traced all the way back to China.

Honey Baked Ham and Mozarella Cheese Starter

I hosted a casual dinner get-together for some family members just the other day. Since all of us were so busy with our tight schedules, we hardly had any time to meet up. Since everyone had to eat sometime or another, what could be a better time than Dinner.

Dark Cherry Clafoutis

Ask me what a clafoutis is 5 months ago, I would have answered you "Uh?" until I was eagerly looking forward to recipes by pastry chef Anna Olson on 'Sugar' during my last trimester, only then I knew what this lovely dessert was all about. The truth is when I was 15kg heavier then my normal self and craving for sugar high, any desserts that need minimum handling will rank highest on my list! CLAFOUTIS is one of them.

Bell Pepper Salad (capsicum) with Grilled Polenta

This was my one time favourite, had it once every week until someone asked "Are there anything else to eat?"

Christmas Shoulder Pork Roast

This year 2007 is ear-marked as the most memorable Christmas dinner I have ever had. Truly not because this is the best roast I have ever made but this was my last wonderful meal I had before I gave birth to my son.

Cream Cheese Chocolate Brownies

I happened to have accidentally combine 2 very lovely ingredients together the other day while whipping up a batch of delicious chocolate brownies for the kids during the school holidays. What I came up with was a mixture of chocolate brownies with a marbling of cream cheese on the top. It came out marvelous and I have made it twice since. For those of you planning for a Christmas dinner dessert, I highly recommend this. It is an easy dessert option that will hardly fail to impress your guests.

Tomato Salad

Took a rather long stroll in a supermarket sometime last month, something I don't think I can achieve right now, not with my protruding belly and my ducky waddle. I had a relaxing time browsing over the fresh vegetables section. Tomatoes literally caught my eyes, they were in so many hues of colours and sizes, deep red, yellows, greens etc. You describe it and they might probably have it. So, I carted some tiny round organic ones, some oval yellow ones, 2 big juicy green ones, 2 big red tomatoes and some sprigs of fresh thyme.

Cheese Crepes

I love eating home-made stuffs especially when I don't have to make them myself, but I guess this is only wishful thinking. If I eat this for breakfast in a cafe, I wonder how much it will cost me. As you can see later in the recipe, the cost for making this breakfast is pretty much very affordable.

Fruit Tart

Hubby brought home some fresh berries from Washington last month and I just cannot imagine what to do with them. It will be such a waste to make fruit jam out of them since they are so expensive after our exchange rates. However expensive though, they are still slightly cheaper than those sold in our Supermarts.

Yong Tau Fu (Stuffed Vegetables)

Lots of people eat Yong Tau Fu in clear soups but I also like them simmered in tau chu sauce. Simply irresistible!
