Chicken with Scallops and Fish Maw

fishmawchick.jpgfishmawchick.jpg

“The fish maw (also known as gas bladder, less accurately swim bladder or air bladder) is an internal organ that contributes to the ability of a fish to control its buoyancy, and thus to stay at the current water depth, ascend, or descend without having to waste energy in swimming.” as defined by Wikipedia. As for this recipe, pre-deep fried fish maw is used, which looks like a loofah, feels kind of the same too.

  2-day Chinese New Year Breakfast

wax-meat2wax-meat2

Mom will always make this scrumptious breakfast on the 2nd morning of Chinese New Year and names it “Hoy Lin Choe Chan” in Cantonese. An array of waxed meat from duck to livers and even oyster waxed meat is served together with a good quality chinese tea and fluffy white rice. I usually skip my morning cuppa coffee on this day.
